your sleep patterns are dream projections
etched into the pillow a micro-centimeter deep
that's all it takes to fall inside
wrapping back into yourself
waking up put off for this
the sound of drills but no one is there
including you
you dream about waking up
to find an owl flying around your room
you couldn't catch it
it flew away, the owl light brown
was it waiting for you?
you wake up again
find nothing but the sun
too bright through red curtain
the heat of days that keep coming
relentless in their repetition
I give in to the rays
there is no choice I don't make
they all come rushing through
way down the hall
you watch yourself
in the mirror
asleep again but restless
miscalculated medicine
taking care of yourself in theory
staring a screen you delineate
lost in the details
pixelated pathos and white noise
rushing over you
can't write a consistent message
can't keep myself straight
a clue to the error
or just a justification for you
I'm losing the ability to paint a picture
simply narrating and doing it poorly
what does it matter to you?
I'm not here for that
the key is fashioned out of new chemicals
a brain system for unlocking love
you and me become each other
history rolls over us
way down the hall
you watch yourself
in the mirror
